Here is a picture of what I have been doing this week. In the photo me (left) Darren Moore right and middle. We spent the day at the cycle show at the NEC yesterday which was great. An opportunity to speak to everyone under one roof. It did feel a bit like a pressure cooker with people I wanted to speak to every 10 paces but was very pleased to have got everything done that we set out to do.

The main story I suppose was my signing for the UK Youth team with Magnus Backstedt. I am so excited, we have talked about racing together for years and I'm so pleased that next year will be the one. The team line up look s great and I am so excited to be back up to international UCI level. After co presenting on ITV4 for the TOB it was great to see the home based guys getting stuck in and mixing it with the big boys over from the continent.

Another interesting thing to talk about maybe, is this time of year. Its end of the season and were all looking to next year with more articles of who's signed for who coming out every day now and is set to continue as the last riders find their places. But its not over yet. Part of the season is the end of the season. A time to look back and asses the performances of the year for both myself and other riders, especially up and coming ones. I'd like to give a quick mention of some to watch next season.

I think best improved rider of the year is Tom Last (Sigma sport Specialized) The Richmond GP (last premiere) was where I really noticed the lads strength. At the top of the last climb we were down to about 12-15 riders left in the group and Tom was there giving it big licks in the finale. A real talent and one to watch next year.

Ride of the Year for me was JTL John Tiernan-Locke on stage 5 of the TOB attacking and dropping some of the best riders in the world up the climb to Hay Tor in Devon on home roads, with home crowd and on the most glorious day. Made me proud he did as I watched from the lead car. Thoroughly deserves a proper world tour team contract.

Most Charismatic rider. For me Mark Cavendish is head and shoulders above the rest. He is a megastar. Even before the worlds win he was getting such a warm and positive reception every stage start and finish on the TOB. I had the pleasure of interviewing him a couple of times on the race and thought he was such a good personality for the sport in this country but for the world of cycling too. Cav if you read this keep up the good work you are a hero to many.

Nicest guy in the peloton. Alex Dowsett, But also the smoothest pedal action too which helped take stage 8a at the TOB along with many more wins to come. They say you shouldn't meet your heroes but in the case of Dowsett its not true. If you do get to say hello you will go home glad you made the effort.

I could go on and on here, so will save a bit for later which will also give me a reason to keep up dating this blog.

Thanks for reading. Please feel free to follow on twitter @yblecol @officiallecol and find us on facebook too.

Take care ride safe,

YB

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uLF_xKjrOcc/Tb6GN10CqHI/AAAAAAAAAGo/wLTiEApWimo/s320/Opie_Melton%2B2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5602062558837254258" />
Chris Opie - Rutland Cicle classic

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-g3HrZQp5oK8/Tb6E9Qu9HYI/AAAAAAAAAGg/w7jlNlbtBVs/s320/rutland.london2011%2B044-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5602061174494272898" />

An Image from the Cicle classic at Rutland. This was a couple of weeks ago now but not a good race for the team. We had almost everyone suffer from a crash a puncture or both. This is one of those races where fortune does have a great deal of influence on the final outcome. I have been fortunate enough to have had two almost perfect races in the last three years and finished on the podium on both occasions so it was no surprise this year was not a success as it doesn't take a mathematician to work out the odds of having a third lucky race in three years was always going to be an unlikely chance. Another picture here is of Chris Opie thinking he could corner quicker then he could. We call this Out breaking ones self ha ha.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xt2Vsw8y5MY/TY4zheP3NNI/AAAAAAAAAGY/hdmhLfOwRy4/s320/C59_perfs.Jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588460837761660114" />

The C59 is beautiful. Its my team bike for the season. I am meeting my sponsors at the bike show in Earls Court its a hub of activity with every bike brand and piece of kit available on show. With this in mind I walk up to the Colnago stand to the best bike on that stand and look at the beautiful machine I'll be riding for the season. The feeling of excitement floods through me as the realization sinks in. I get the best and most exciting bike available today. I once had a conversation with a guy at a race who complemented my bike, I complemented his back (which was also a Colnago) to which he replied, "But I paid for mine". I was taken a back and said "nothing is free in this life. I have a look at the Brochure and check out colors. I went for the Bastile day special edition. Its white with touches of red and blue, an up to date and on trend color scheme that will also match our kit for the season. I am all for matching things up as best I can.

The team is riding Campag so that's what I'll get with it. An all Italian bike when full K-Force carbon components are added bars/stem/seat post. When it arrives I'm not disappointed. Like a child who dreams for months about something it delivers on every level. The bike is light stiff with internal carbon layers running down the center of the down tube to stiffen the ride. Carbon cross weaved to maximize rigidity and efficiency without rattling you to pieces in the process. One of the things that strikes you as you look closer, they have gone back to using a kind of Colnago club shaped tubes. In my opinion they are beautiful and the perfect size. I've ridden other bikes with over sized down tubes and huge bottom bracket area to make it more efficient but it feels like an MTB and cumbersome. Then you get old steel frames with the Reynolds tubing where the tubes now feel much too thin and skinny. This C59 is the balance I'm looking for. Substantial enough to deliver efficiency but not over engineered. This leaves you with a beautiful feeling bike with class and finesse oozing out of every angle.

An important part of comfort on a bike is that it fits. I recommend getting a bike fit if your going to spend this much on a frame. I'm lucky I went to see an old tour de France pro from the Halfords days called Adrian Timmis. A great guy and amazing bike fitter. My position is now sorted and with the K-force bars I'm happy sitting for hours on the bike to train and race. One of the first things you feel with this bike is the rigidity at the front end. The over sized headset and forks make such a stiff and responsive front end along with the straight down forks. The rake is less then other frames but once you settle in the handling and descending on this bike is planted and safe. We tested this racing each other on the team training camp down Sa Calobra in Majorca. Its the place where they filmed the Renault add a few years ago so the surface is good and smooth and you can really see what the bike handles like on the way down to the sea with 10k of hair pins.

The second aspect of this bike that really hits you is the way you can click down the gears and get them turning. I find you can go a sprocket bigger then other bikes, the frame is so efficient you just seem to get it moving and its as if the frame is encouraging you to go again click down faster faster. It wants you to go faster. There was a similar feeling with last years EPS frame and its continued with this one. I love it. All in all this C59 hits the spot. Brand image has come on a lot in recent years, in the past slightly looked upon as something for the older gentleman, now this bike has all the contemporary edge anyone could want.

Check out the bike in action at the Halfords tour series and Premiere Calendar series over the season starting with the cicle classic on the 17th of April.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E31jjmNIXBU/TVg3uY6OwdI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/5uhcEHGDzpw/s320/Perfs%2Bfinnish%2B2011" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5573265808971186642" />

This was entering the changing rooms after the 2011 Perfs pedal and first race of the season. I was deceptively cold and miserable but never one to complain put on a happy face for John Cannings who took it. Honestly I was really pleased to get to this time in the season when we get a number and all the hurting counts for something even if it was properly cold and wet all day.

I would really like to mention how Magnus did a great job today. He commands such a lot of respect in his team that is clear, he also rides as an example, happy to smash it on the front for his teammates. He influenced the race and made it feel very continental in style where I think we did 7 full laps and the last one was the fastest where the break was formed and the winner emerged. That is good racing and I hope to see more of it this season. It will benefit everyone in the long run as we all start to race faster.

I was pleased with my form and had a good day, crossed a few gaps, made a few efforts and ultimately could do what I wanted. I am very pleased with my form, it is only Feb and there will be lots more to come as the season really gets going. For the rest of this month there will be a Springtime pursuit in Devon and then its off to Majorca for 2 weeks training with the team.

Till the next time take care.

Yanto

After a great 2 and a half weeks in Spain where I have been able to ride like a full time pro. I am happy with progress and sensations. My mind has now turned to the season and what I hope to achieve as it will need to be added into the big plan now. It's all about form cycles and they need considering now for the whole season. I'm looking at the Tour Series and Nationals now because it will influence what I do next week and the week after.

Pendragon-Colnago-Le Col will be doing a training camp end of Feb then were back to the UK for some races before heading back to Majorca for the Cintron Tour of Majorca with all the continental pro teams. This will be my first objective the week before the Rutland-Melton on April 17th. Then we hit a busy time with classic and exciting races such as the Lincoln GP before we begin the Tour Series races.

The next few weeks will see me lower the volume of training in favour of some intensity along with the first early season races in the UK. To top it off I have my new race bike to collect next week. Really pleased to be riding the new Colnago C59 in bastile day colours of red White and blue.

For now lots of visualisation is important for a good season so I'm going to go and do that now.

Form cycles

This week has been a good one training. We have done some quality miles on great roads which is all contributing to what I hope will be my most successful season so far. I am someone who needs to achieve the goals I set for my self. I don't ride round for the sake of it and this season is no different. I have been working on base miles but with some good quality intensity and strength work added in. One thing to consider is that all the intensity we do out training will bring us up in our own personal biological 'Form Cycle' part of being a successful athlete is understanding these cycles and how the racing and training intensity is influencing them. Then you can make your best form a choice not an accident. It takes a sixth sense to listen to on many occasions. You have to pay attention to the subtle indications your body is giving you every day and interpret them correctly. Then you know where you are and what to do about it. This makes it a real pleasure racing, you can then manage your expectations on what you will be capable of at any time. This I am sure will contribute vastly to the amount of success and failure you will experience in your season. Success is relative to our expectations. If we have managed them well they will match our capability, and if we have done the work out on the bike we should be able to fulfill our capability. That's the goal for the season any way, without being too soft so as to set your expectations too low and never truly fulfill out potential, but also not be unrealistic about what we want to achieve. How much you want to get out of your self, how close you want to push to the limit will depend on how much stress and pressure we are willing to manage on a daily basis. This will give you your ceiling. Have a think about how much pressure you are willing to manage to achieve your goals.

Enjoy the process.

Self worth

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MlwiC3EhXFE/TTwQOARlKcI/AAAAAAAAAGE/8gZUdy5mZHk/s320/Mother%2Bof%2BGod.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565341072301042114" />
Interesting thoughts of the week;

Ho does self worth affect us and how do we get more of it by what we do?? Answers....
Well having had a little time on the bike recently I have been thinking about this. Combined with the experience of having 'retired' for a few years I remember what it was like not having a respectable job and nobody knowing what I have done. Quite an eye opener!! I say this because I was always told that the hardest year of my career as a cyclist would be the first one abroad, when you move out from your parents and to a foreign country where no one knows or cares that much about you, you will be far away from home and unable to communicate properly in a foreign language. Well for many years this was correct and the memory of saving up all week for a phone card to call and speak to my girlfriend back home stood out as a very hard year. That was until I decided I was not going to get to the level I'd always hoped in cycling and I was not going to make enough money to retired full time by the age of 36 or 37. So what should I do??.... I know stop now reinvent my self and start something new, a new career easy!!... NO not easy.

I stopped riding all together and took some time to think about what I wanted to do. It was hard I had no idea, worse I had so little experience of life outside of the cycling bubble. I realized how little I knew. I felt low and frustrated and learned the value of having conviction and direction in my life that was now missing all together. I realized how much of my self worth was attached to what I did and who noticed, to read articles about how I achieved what I did in cycling and journalists and fans coming and saying 'good job,' was a regular ego hit that I was reliant on for basic confidence, and now it was all gone and I felt low! Compounded by the fact I had stopped exercising completely and this also had an effect on my internal sense of satisfaction about life. I realized how lucky we are as sports men and women because so many people go to work every day anonymous in their life with rarely anyone to come and say 'hey great job,' 'I love the way you wrote that email,' or made that website, or any of those things, least of all journalists saying, 'the way you handled that meeting was great, where did you learn those skills?' Imagine that!! After a year and a half, I had been humbled by life outside of cycling. The confidence gone, I had also seen success in other areas of life by people very skilled in ways I had never even realized existed before. As a cyclist in the bubble, its easy to become conditioned to thinking, only cycling related results matter! I know good cyclists who look down on the public as punters not worth any time or attention. Even at races when they are obviously fans, this astounds me. Many of the people I met who are fans of cycling were successful in their business and deserved respect in their own right. I was glad to have my eyes opened to the fact the cycling world relative to the BIG world is so small!!!

I'm explaining all this as, after all these experiences I came back to cycling via skipping and rowing. I started exercising again to release stress and it worked, but my competitive nature came through again and I was trying to beat my PB every night after work. I thought I may as well start riding again and think about how to get back involved with a great sport that had given me so much. I am pleased now to be doing my business. It gives me a much broader involvement with a wider spectrum of people within the industry, its not so singular and gives me an opportunity to implement all my values and ambitions to the benefit of more then just me.

The reason I was thinking about all of this was because I believe our inner confidence influences how we ride, but also that riding contributes to inner confidence in many ways. For the pro's training is a means to an end, to be able to compete in races where doing well bears consequence on their life. But for those who don't have time to race, training is everything, training, racing, a way of gaining confidence from beating your mates. All this stuff influences us.

Have a think on how much cycling contributes to your confidence in life by making you look better, ride faster, or just the fresh air and a chat with the lads (or lasses) helps set you up for a good day or week.

One last thing, since last week was not a good week for the poor guys who lost their lives and the families who are left missing a loved one, be grateful for the simple grace of getting home safe after every ride. Its a dangerous place out there on the road and we should not take it for granted that we will make it back safe every day! My condolences go out to the families of the young guys who didn't come home last week. Lets all keep our eyes open and pay attention.

Training with the pro's

Here is an interesting thing. Training with the Pro's is easier then training with amateurs. What?? I hear you say. Well its like this, I have spent all winter up to the 12th of Jan training with the boys in London, they come out for a day here and a day there. But a common theme is that they have very limited time to ride, so they really make an effort to make the most of every min they are out by pressing on. Basically half wheeling me. This is not a major problem until you start doing 25h a week and more. Then its an issue when its some one different every day because 5-10h/week is not enough time to ride your self into a box, but 25h00 is! So all the guys come out with me and smash it for 3h00 and go home happy, I go home tired because I did 5 the day before and will do 5 the day after. Here with the Pro's they all train steady because were all respectful of the kind of miles everyone is doing. Don't get me wrong, when it goes hard it goes really hard, but the efforts are much more controlled structured and much faster! Like they should be! Most of these guys have coaches and none of them are just setting out to smash it all day, because that makes you into a mono speed incapable of responding to serious changes in pace which is what wins races. All you guys out there keen to make the most of training to get better results in races need to keep this in mind. A structured approach to training will make you much faster! Training hard makes you strong, training properly makes you fast, they are not the same. Food for thought.....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MlwiC3EhXFE/TTSbT_m64DI/AAAAAAAAAF8/YMcE6dFsreQ/s320/Jez1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5563242207503900722" />

This is a picture of Jeremy Hunt Team Sky. We've been training together in Spain. Its hard work he is strong but we get on well and it helps to take your mind off the miles when you can chat easily. There are not so many cars on the roads here so we rarely need to single out and let them past. Its so easy to train here. The motivation it takes to do each hour is at least half of what it would be to do the same miles in the UK. Such a pleasure. I honestly appreciate every day I get to ride, and without rubbing it in to all those who don't have the time to train this much, but I am glad this is part of my job and I'm not sitting at a computer all day in an office!! I am very intentional about making the most if it while it lasts and I can ride to a good standard.

Another thing I have been noticing is the laid back approach to riding here. In London I get up early every morning and head out in a bit of a rush to get back in time to fit everything else I have to do into each day. Here, we get up about 08:30 - 09:00 and leave the house at 10:00 - 10:30. Partly because the temperature is very cold at night, 5-6C and it warms up as the sun comes up to about 16-17C in the afternoon. Also there is always dew and water on the roads till about 11:00 - 11:30 and that is dangerous, means you often go down the descents at the same speed you went up them because roads here are very slippery when wet! Any way its been a pleasure not to feel rushed every day even though I am still productive everyday after training. But I think that is just the London way... rush rush rush!!!

Will try and take some better pictures and make some regular posts. A little background on the add. I was trying to design an image that showed something extra about what we are trying to achieve, from my self personally, the values of the company and everything to do with the product and the business. I went for a shot off road on Dartmoore up a very steep path but on a road bike with slick tires. This was to represent that we should not settle for other peoples limits. A version of 'Impossible is nothing' type message, as the path is totally impassable on a Mountain bike let a lone a road bike. Then I wanted to use some text with depth and meaning of its own. This is the first half of a Shakespeare quote that I really like. "Boldness has genius magic and power." I love it and it perfectly represents my attitude when I consider what I can achieve. Lastly we added a little post production on the lighting to give it that moody serious look. I feel serious about my job as director because I want to succeed and deliver a quality product with a quality service. Nothing less will do. I hope you like it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_MlwiC3EhXFE/TSdTBYgsvCI/AAAAAAAAAFc/1s0cegYqCAk/s320/CNV00036.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5559503548236741666" />

Le Col has been seen in the equine world. It has been very busy with the team starting racing and business just constantly busy. Any way, the last race was the Rutland to Melton where I managed to get my self on the podium for the second year in a row. I do like this race and am motivated to do well, but it also fits my strengths, good bike handling is imperative along with decent race craft to understand the flow of the race, and obviously the ability to avoid punctures is crucial, but mostly luck.

However saying all that it usually comes to the last corner which dictates where you finish in you group. I went too early and got parsed at the last moment.

A little photo on the Sommeberg.

Cold weather training!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MlwiC3EhXFE/Sz5sxbugpYI/AAAAAAAAAEY/ZZipc_s2l24/s320/IMG00186-20091220-1058.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421890597912880514" />

Last week was a week of cold weather training. I am of the opinion that I would rather go out in conditions like this rather then do 3h00 on the turbo, which I don't have so its not even an option. People ask 'But are you not worried about coming off?' I am worried about crashing but no more then on any other training day, the road is a dangerous place, ice or no ice, the dangers change and you have to focus on different areas of danger, but danger is danger.

In this photo, we are in Windsor park, where it was lethal!! We road out on the main roads which had all been treated and arrived at Windsor park on our usual route and decided it would probably be OK after venturing 200-300 meters up the park road, only for it to get progressively worse as we went a long till it became sheet ice right across the road, it was not black ice, it was very visible and dangerous. We ended up cycling up the grass verge for 3 miles to get the rest of the way round to the main road. Two chaps came down out of 4 but only at about 10 miles/hour and did not hurt them selves so it was a little lucky because people have broken their legs falling off going slower.

My tips to enjoy cold weather training: Wear lots of good kit, multiple layers of wind proof/waterproof clothing usually work combined with soft warm base layers. Double layers on legs and good gloves and over shoes are a necessity!! Ride like there is ice every where, if you are unsure play safe and be careful. Your average speed will b less then usual but you will have a good sense of satisfaction when you get back.

Enjoy!

Tenerife December 09

<img style="display:block; So today was another training day. 3h30 on the MTB to Box Hill and back. Its really good when you get to know where your going as you can do almost all tracks and only cross main roads.

Also today was good as we finalized the team roster for next year for the Pendragon-Le Col-Colnago team. I am running a business and it has taken priority with a few issues that needed sorting out over the past few weeks. Back now though!

I have been getting in the training quite a bit. I felt like this season was a bit up and down with my form because I had very few miles under my belt after starting training again in November last year for this season. So with 3 years worth of extra motivation to use up I decided to train right through this winter without a break. I am doing 15-20 hours a week at the moment usually averaging out at about 375miles/week. I am working on position, staying aero and low, plus power, so lots of SE hill efforts in big gear on the drops. Makes you suffer if you begin doing them from the start after 5h00!! Advice from the big man Jez Hunt so I trust it will pay off. Any way if its hurting its working...... Thats the secret to getting the best out of yourself!

This week has been a difficult one. So many things to get right it has made my head spin. We have got it all sorted now but it was not simple. Luckily, my good work in picking good guys to work with from manufacturing to wholesalers has paid off! I would like to thank all the Guys from Harrods, Cycles Dauphin, Colin Lewis Cycles, South Fork, Hewitts and Sigma. They have been great!

Have not had much time for training but could probably do with taking it steady for a week. This Thursday is the start of the bike show in London so I will be hoping to finalize some details for what and who I will be racing for and with next year. This was 5 mins before I realized I had punctured for the second time today. Being both Useless when it comes to spares neither Jez or I had a pump and tube between us. Jez brought a tube but no pump and I had nothing. Dartmouth has no bike shop so I did 12 miles on Jez's wheel at 20mph to Totnes on a flat back tire. In all fairness the tire held up fine, thankfully Jeremy was going through a bad patch on this long 6h00 ride so I kept up. (I got a kicking later at about 5h30). I truly great ride if you are ever in Devon there are some beautiful roads to choose from!

Here is a quick shot of Myself Colin Lewis, mentor and friend, plus Big Jez who gave me a kicking all week over Dartmoore.

The not so exciting part of running your own business, today has been spent mostly dealing with Vat payments and very boring paper work. Well its still not better 3 weeks later and I went to the physio to get some advice, He explained that I have bruised the cartilage under the kneecap and that when I ride it inflames by rubbing together. He said if I just keep riding I will rough the cartilage and then it will be 3-6month off the bike for sure. So I am more then a little frustrated to be indoors as the weather is beautiful outside!

I guess the only consolation is that I have directed my energy else where and been very productive with the business side of things. As this season draws to a close we are already having a look at new products and styles for next year, they take so long to put into production you have to prepare early! Normally this would get right on my nerves but today I relished the opportunity to turn right round and head straight home........ to get my windstopper jacket that I have been waiting for an opportunity to wear for months and head right back out again to finish my training. Sad?....... Probably. But now at least I know the changes I made have improved the garment in the way I wanted.

The other exciting thing that happened today was my team caps arrived. Black with white gold white stripe and white with white gold white stripe and they look great! Its all coming together so by the end of this month it should all be ready to go, fingers crossed.

Today is the first day for 8 days I have gone out to do anything longer then 3h00 since cracking my knee on my MTB as I went over the handlebars. It just so happened I set of at 7:30am and snapped my rear gear cable after 15mins. So I kept riding till it was 9:00am and I could go to a shop and buy a new one. So I spent 1h15 riding around Dartmoore on 39/12. It is actually quite a big gear!! I could feel my knee starting to give me a bit of a niggle after 2h00 or so but thought nothing of it. You know I thought I will just go harder so as the pain in my muscles takes over my attention. (stupid fool I am) Any way caried on as you do and got to 3h15 and my knee is really starting to give me pain. I stop at a friends house and take a double dose of ibuprofen and carry on. finished my ride 6h10 with heaps of climbs. Am I stupid or hard or both??? Some time I wonder! After shower iced knee and resting and don't feel too bad now painkillers have stopped working. We will see. If i have to take 6months off with knee trouble I will know it was the wrong decision!

Sore head.

Yesterday (Sunday), I did my second MTB race at Huntingdon. I was trying to think why , then I realized, on the day of the race I had breakfast, then started the race and then had a small sandwich on the way home with only a couple of musely bars inbetween. Considering it was quite possibly a 7000 calory day that means there was some serious calory deficit to make up. Well I have been making up big time! Breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, pudding! Ahh the benefits of being an edurance athlete.

Its the morning after my first proper MTB race in Brighton called the Brighton Big Dog and it was an enduro 6h00 event. Sounds like fun, well I seriously questioned that after 25mins when the pain in my back grew unbearibly as I tried to keep up with the teams doing a relay. I did the solo category and 6h00 on your own with soo much single track gets very tiring, especially for a roady like me! After 1h30 I settled into a rythm and time seamed to pass fairly quick. The Colnago Ibex was fantastic and reliable. I was very pleased not to fall off as it is easy to do especially when you are tired, a few close calls was all but your not racing unless you get those. Kept repeating to my self, 'you make up more time not loosing time,' just incase I got carried away and tried to ride beyond my self.

Good days work though, met lots a very friendly people and it was nice to arrive at such a relaxed atmosphere at the event. I think that is when you have people doing a fun ride at the same event as the seriouse racing it helps keep the atmosphere light, some alcohol and music at the finish and everyone is happy. Also when the corse is in the woods and not on public roads apart from up setting a few dog walkers, you can afford to be more relaxed as you are not sharing the space with so many other people trying to go on their summer holidays and getting stressed about being held up.

Thank you to Magnus Backstedt and the team for all the support and the race number. Would have a been a much more dificult without them.

Bull

Today was a good training day. I did 3h45 on the MTB. I was wearing my new red kit for the first time and as I crested a sharp rise on Dartmoor a huge bull came into view facing me. Baring in mind I am on the moor and there is no fences or hedges. I made a sharp U turn and headed back down the track. Managed to avoid him after that but definitely got the adrenalin spike out there on my own ha ha. Getting used to the MTB after my crash yesterday.

First Post

First post on the new blog.
